I like to think that God is teaching me something every day. Sometimes I'm too loud for my own good. But I try to learn something every day.
Since I've been writing "JOSEPH!" I've learned a lot about myself and life. In particular, and on point, I now have a tremendous appreciation for adoptive parents, and adoption in general. Here it is (the point): adoption is a promise. Not only to the child you have taken into your hearts and lives! The adoption promise is far more reaching than what we see on the surface. It is a promise extended to all society and future generations.
The promise is such: I will provide love and education to this individual soul, who will grow into the fullness of his/her potential and help build a better society for all peoples. I acknowledge the responsibility the Universe is giving me and cherish this gift. May I never betray the trust of this bond I am knowingly entering into.
And isn't that the way it is with God?
I want to encourage all who read this to actively educate yourselves about adoption and those special people who have become adoptive parents. On Facebook and the Adoptive Families website. Numerous other sources are out there.
Whatever your faith or vision of God is (or may be) the point is love. Perhaps you have no religion or faith. You may be a person of rational thought and logical reasoning. Thank God for people like you. You help keep people like me grounded.
In any case, as mentioned above, the point is love. Adoption is a promise of love. Unconditional. This is how we become a better society. Love one another. Education and knowledge will follow hand in hand.
And our own adoptive parent Joseph? Well, he doesn't care that Jesus is the future savior of all humanity. He just wants to raise a man worthy of his name.
